5 Reasons your digital marketing strategy isn't working

Consumer behavior has changed significantly in the last year.

According to Sprout social index 50% of consumers increased their social media usage in the last six months and after following a brand on social media, customers continue to engage in various ways. 91% visit the brand’s website or app, 89% will buy from the brand and 85% will recommend the brand to a family or friend.

So in short - Digital marketing works! Yet we still have many clients approaching us for help saying that they haven't had any success with their social media marketing.

Before I go into the details of why your strategy might be failing allow me to s

share some interesting stats with you.

78% of Internet users conduct product research online

Which means that if your not online it's almost as if your business doesn't exist

The number of marketers who say Facebook is “critical” or “important” to their business has increased 83% in just 2 years

78% of salespeople using social media perform better than their peers.

57% of consumers will follow a brand to learn about new products or services while 47% will follow to stay up to date on company news.

Even though there are so many statistics to prove that social media marketing is valuable and effective many companies are still sceptical about investing in their digital marketing strategy.

Before I go on , I would like to ask you, when researching a brand online, what are your thoughts on companies who don't have a social media presence?

When I can't find a brand on social platforms, I immediately become suspicious.

Even if they do have a website I'm less likely to purchase from them.


Well this actually bring me to my first point,

1. The Importance of social media pages

Your social media presence is a visual representation of your business in the virtual world.

Imagine your social pages as a storefront.

Would you invite people over to your shop if the building was in dire need of renovations? Or if you didn't have anything to display in your store. No you wouldn't.

Well the exact same is true for your social pages.

Long gone are the days where you could post once a week, with a buy 1, get 1 free add. Or just sharing random posts that you liked.

Some companies start running ads when their social pages look like a dilapidated storefront. And when they don't see any leads they think it doesn't work.

You need to renovate or build your digital storefront up to something that makes clients stop and turn around to look again .It needs to be organized, professional and eye-catching.

This brings me to my second point.

2. Having a Strategy

Not all content -or in layman's terms - not all posts are created equal.

When posting on your page you need to keep three things in mind:

  • Your ideal client or audience

  • Your marketing funnel

  • Adding value

Even though posting on your social feeds might seem simple and easy. Creating valuable, impactful and strategic content is a skill. When done correctly can grow your audience, generate leads and build your community. And when you are posting the right type of content , you need to ensure that you are consistent.

That brings me to my third point

3. Consistency

Whilst growing your online presence , you start establishing the know, like and trust factor with your clients.

They start seeing you as the expert, they are getting to know you and they trust you.

Think of it like this. If you support a local bakery because they always have freshly baked croissants twice a week, it's important to consistently deliver great quality and service.

Otherwise clients might stop trusting them and go elsewhere. The same goes for digital media.

You need to ensure that you know when your audience is active online , what type of content they enjoy and then consistently provide it .

As soon as clients realize that you are always there , delivering value to them they won’t just purchase from you but refer others

This brings me to my fourth point-

4. COMMUNITY management.

Very often we see that clients are posting decent content but they are not seeing any results.

My question to you is; "How present and active are you within your community?"

Including your own page and other platforms and groups.

The digital world is based on connection. When people start researching your business , they are looking to connect to more than just the info on your website - they want to connect with you.

To connect, you need to be present and active.

  • Are you responding to direct messages?

  • Are you replying to comments?

  • Are you reposting clients reviews?

These are some of the basic principles of connecting online.

If you are looking to grow your business and establish yourself as THE EXPERT in your area or field you need to reach out.

Industry related online groups provide the perfect stage to show your expertise and willingness to help.

When you can participate and answer people's questions within community groups , you start selling your VALUE.

People start to trust you and like you. By the time they start researching your page they are basically ready to purchase from you.

As Zig Ziglar so wisely put it, "stop selling and start helping."

This brings me to my 5th and most important point-

5. Analysis and adaptability

So you are posting great content (or so you think) on a regular basis

You are running some ads, but you are not seeing the results. So you just need to spend more money on ads right? WRONG

You need to analyze and adapt.The digital world is faced paced and ever changing.

What is working today, might not work tomorrow.

Do you know how to analyze your social media statistics on your business page ?

Are you utilizing the info you get from those stats.

To have a successful digital marketing strategy you need to:

  • Regularly analyze your statistics

  • Utilize those stats to adapt accordingly to what your audience wants

  • Research and stay on top of current trends. When a new trend or tool emerges and you ignore it, you are losing out on a massive chunk of market share and possibly some of your current followers

The digital realm equips us to test and change our approach daily to ensure success.
