In this post, I break down why the strategies of Influencer marketing can help you grow your business, and what exactly is the goals behind implementing this concept.
So Influencer Marketing….Let’s start with numbers.
With 49% of Consumers depending on Influencer Recommendations and with 74% of People Trusting Social Networks to Guide Purchasing Decisions, as a business you cannot afford NOT to be working with Influencers.
BUT, surprisingly, my biggest point today isn’t about working with influencers, but THINKING like they do.
To do that, I want to look at what exactly Influencers really are.
An influencer is someone who has the power to affect the purchasing decisions of others because of his or her authority, knowledge, position, or relationship with his or her audience.
They also have a following in a distinct niche, with whom he or she actively engages. The size of the following depends on the size of his/her topic of the niche and all the activities they engage in to grow their audience & following.
So in essence, Influencers are all about building their PERSONAL BRAND.
Why is this so important for a business then?
Well for the simple reason that people buy from people. And if you are not positioning your business with elements of personality & authenticity, people will not engage with you and move onto the business that they connect with.
Influencers have a high level of trust with their audience, making their recommendations of products/ services/ experiences etc. “sell” very well, because the influencer has already “authenticated” the purchase for the consumer.
Thus Personal Branding on social media is becoming more and more important due to the multitude of benefits that it brings to one’s business and professional goals.
Quick ways to get started with building your personal brand before we look at Influencer Marketing tactics that you can implement to grow your business and rband.
Firstly, you need to set clear brand goals.
What exactly do you want to achieve?
Are you starting a new business?
Trying to reposition your business & brand?
Launching new products/ services?
Then you need to define your expertise. All marketing sites/ businesses/ experts always talk about Niche. And it is important to know what yours is because it will define how you target your customers, communicate with them and solve their pain points for them.
And, when you are focused on a specific Niche, you are able to become a specialist instead of a generalist in that field. Which shows your customers you are the expert.
So whether it is your personal or business brand, you need to showcase what you stand for and how people should recognize you.
By getting personal with your branding, you are able to create a deeper connection with your customers and potential customers so that they are more willing to invest in your business. They will buy into your story, meaning that they will pick you over your competition.
You also want to establish a clear brand voice, image and statement. This is represented in your branding, as well as your vision and mission. This connects you with your audience and shows them what is important to you.
Ok, so quickly- have YOU ever worked with Influencers in your business?
Or are you building a personal brand as part of your brand strategy?

Now, I want to look at the specific tactics influencers use to build their personal brand, the ways that have created such success for them in this process.
Some of the key points that influencers utilise that businesses can use:
They are not afraid to collaborate with each other, or of course brands.
As a business, you can also see where the opportunities lie to build the right collaborations.
They build successful partnerships and look where they can parallel audiences as opportunities to grow theirs, but also to give more value to their audience.
An example of this can be a Food Influencer. She, or he can partner with a chef, a restaurant and a photographer.
Together they can give extra value to their audience by creating special offers and sharing great content that shows their individual expertise. And by doing so they can surprise and delight their customers.
So talking about creating great content, that is something that influencers do, do really well. They pay attention to different ways of telling a story that engages and excites their audience.
They make sure there is a consistent look and feel and theme to all their content, and it draws their audience in to connect with them, and to expect that quality. As a business, delivering high value, personable, amazing content can definitely put you a notch above your competitors.
The next important thing that influencers leverage very well is audience engagement & interaction.
They do this by involving their audience in certain decisions of their brand, partaking in competitions, asking for user generated content (UGC) that creates community and fosters that connection and willingness to share the content to the audience’s network again, growing the Influencer’s exposure.
This leads into the next point, of influencers being connected to their audiences wants and needs. They are constantly checking in with their audience to see how they can be better and serve them best. As a brand and business, checking in with your customer is vital for dynamic reactions and sustainable growth.
Influencers have developed the idea that they are experts in their field, and thus their audience trusts them, and knows that their recommendations are valuable. As a business, positioning yourself as an expert in your niche is really vital, as I mentioned earlier.
Then lastly, it isn’t about quick results. Influencers check, analyse and evaluate their results, data and metrics consistently. Again, this allows them to react fast to changes and keep giving their audience what they want and need.
